Talks & lectures

+ Description
Since a few years I am studying the origins of Live Cinema. Live Cinema is a form of cinema based on the synergetic combination of music and moving imagery often presented as a stage performance, mainly done with the aid of digital hard- software. It has a long tradition in the abstract cinema of Oscar Fischinger, Leny Lye and the technical inovations made by pioneers such as John Whitney and Norman Mclaren. Many contemporary artists working in the field of Live Cinema have rediscovered and are becoming more aware of it’s roots. Via their work as Live Cinema artists they have introduced the language of Visual Music into the field of digital media arts.

Last year I gave a few presentations on the issue of Live Cinema and it’s origins in abstract & avant-garde film. One of the talks I gave was during the Upgrade session held at the Melkweg. The link below will direct you to the site of Fabchannel with a live registration of the Upgrade event.

Upgrade goes Live: July 06: A brief histrory of Live Cinema

+ Some other lectures I gave during the past years were on the topics of early computer films. As well a brief talk on the language of abstract cinema.
