As being part of the programming team I’m proudly to announce  the opening upcoming Thursday the 23rd, of Sonic Acts ‘The Poetics of Space’. Which will be held in Amsterdam at various locations such as Paradiso, NIMk, de Balie and the Artis Planetarium. This year’s edition will be an exploration in art, science, music and technology. With lectures among others by Derrick de Kerckhove, Trace Ladell and Barry Truax. Films by directors such as Paul Sharits, Laszlo Moholy Nagy, Makino Takashi & Jom O’Rourke and Takashi Ito. Performances by Hasswell & Hecker, Monolake and Jurgen Reble & Thomas Kohner. Work will be exhibited by artists such as H.C. Gilje, Jacob Kirkegaard and Carlo Bernadini.

The title of the thirteenth Sonic Acts Festival, The Poetics of Space, is derived from the English translation of the book La Poétique de l’Espace (1958) by the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard. In this work Bachelard meticulously describes the influence of space and architecture on humans and implicitly argues for a new type of architecture based on experience and imagination, an approach that is not only rooted in science or functionality.

A Thousand Scapes

These days at the Media Festival ‘Plaza Plus’ in Eindhoven ‘A Thousand Scapes’ will be screened during the Optofonica program. You might check out as well the talk my friend
Hans Beekmans gives on Live Cinema were he will screen also some footage from my performance Point Line Cube Cloud.

Finally it’s there, the long awaited dvd Optofonica.
It contains besides my short film ‘A Thousand Scapes’ a long list of various artists who all work in the field immersive media art. The Optofonica dvd is produced and compiled by TeZ and brings together a wide variety of short films were possibilities of multi sensorial awareness are being investigated.

Upcoming Thursday December 10, There will be a launch party of the DVD at the Optofonica Lab in Amsterdam. The Optofonica Capsule installation is still on display at the ‘See this sound’ Exhibition at the Lentos museum in Lintz.

The dvd Optofonica is distributed by the LINE label in a limited edition of 1000 copies.

The annual Dutch Film Festival invited me for their RE:VISIE program to host an evening on Live Cinema and computer film art . During this evening I’ll exemplify and create some context not only on my own films and installations, as well I made a selection of  short films by Dutch film makers. Together with classic films by Stan Brakhage and John Whitney who were a great inspiration to me. By showing these films I hope to establish some undefined connections between early computer art, American avant-garde cinema and contemporary developments in (Dutch) computer film art.

Films by: Stan Brakhage, John Whitney, Bas van Koolwijk, Telcosystems, Karl Klomp, LUST, Jan-Willem Deiman and Martijn van Boven.

In the second week of September ‘A Thousand Scapes’ will be shown at the Split International Film Festival of new film.
It’s part of the competition programme for short films. At the moment there are no screening dates available, if known I’ll post them shortly.

Next week the media festival Elektra in Montreal will host a film and video compilation programme which I curated on behalf of the Sonic Acts festival. The programme will consist of a fine list of films from the early days of computer films by John Whitney, Stan Vanderbeek & Lillian Schwartz. As well some contemporary classics by C.E.B. Reas, Rafael and Tina Frank.

The programme will be at the Cinématheque Québécoise on May 7th & 10th.

I will perform at The Woodstreet Gallery in Pittsburgh (USA) my latest live cinema set Point Line Cube Cloud. It’s part of a group performance of Dutch media artists (telcosystems, Gert-Jan Prins & Bas van Koolwijk, TeZ) during a two day session at the gallery.

As part of the film programme “Machine Improvisations” my latest short film ” A Thousand Scapes” will be on display for six weeks at the Woodstreet Gallery.

I’ll be performing my latest live cinema performance Point line Cube Cloud at the Dutch media festival STRP in Eindoven at the 10th of April (time to be confirmed). Point Line Cube CLoud is a visualisation of energy fields consituted in four parts and mainly consisting of fine lines and particles accomplished by a 5.1 immersive surround soundtrack.
